Greetings!!!

Welcome to my blog. First of all, this is all new to me, so hang in there. The purpose of this page is a way for me to talk about my newly re-discovered love of cycling. For the last 24 years I've been out of the game due to sheer laziness. Once I got my drivers license, my bike got kicked to the curb. Then I coupled that with my love for cars and love for building them, racing them and showing them off. Then I met the love of my life, my wife Julie. Fast-forward 20 years, a job, 3 kids, a house, dogs, cats, numerous renovation projects, kids in sports, several car projects and you get the picture.

It wasn't until June of this year that one of the worst possible things ever happened to me. I was on my way home from work when I noticed the traffic started slowing to a crawl. So, me being me, I didn't want to sit in that crap and took a side road. Bad idea, I got about  a mile and a half into my detour when the unimaginable happened "CRASH!!!!" I went head on with a much larger truck.  If  I'd have known then what I know now, I'd have stuck it out on the freeway. I suffered a broken collar bone, broken sternum, broken truck, and broken pride. Out of all of them, my pride hurt the worst. I haven't had an accident since the one I had when I first got my license.

The wreck and subsequent injuries put me out of work for a couple of months. it gave me some time to reflect on my life, and how fortunate I was to still have it. I made myself a promise that I would try to take better care of  body. At the time of my wreck, I was already trying to lose weight. as of  May 10th 2012 I weighed 302 lbs. On that day I had gotten down to 280. Good thing too, as they were loading me into the ambulance I had thoughts one of the EMT's getting a hernia(LOL). After I recovered and was ready to go back to work, I had to figure out how I was going to get there. I did have another vehicle, but I knew it would eat me alive in fuel costs. So on to plan "B". I'll ride the train to San Jose, then ride my bike the rest of the way. The first month of this plan were greuling, starting with my old bike being too small for me and the ride was 5 miles long, and I hadn't really exercised much in the last 10 years. A month later I made a real investment in myself, and bought a new bike. I'm currently riding a 2013 Specialized Hardrock. I decided to go with a mountain bike becuase I wanted a bike I could beat on and take it. in the last couple of months I've found that I've been extending my ride time, going on lunchtime rides, and challenging myself everyday. So, that's a little bit of history on me (the part that matters anyway) and see you out there on the road.
